Many people throughout the world celebrate the great holiday. Committee of Youth Organizations is 60 years old today. The evening dedicated to the anniversary passed in the Octyabrsky Hall of the House of Unions.
The official part was opened with the greeting of Russian Minister for Foreign Affairs — Sergey Lavrov.
«USSR CYO brought a significant contribution to the development of public diplomacy and strengthening of humanitarian cooperation, thus contributing to the maintenance of trust and understanding in the world. Realized in the framework of its educational and scholarship programs, aimed at training of professionals for many countries, strengthen the credibility of our country in the international arena. I am glad that today the International Committee of Youth Organizations continues continue the process of building the international exchanges. In the current difficult situation in the international arena such activities are of particular importance», — stressed the Minister.
The Chairperson of the National Youth Council, similar association to the Committee on its objectives, tasks and structure, Grigory Petushkov took the initiative to congratulate, expressing his organization.
«It is an honor to be here today. The Committee took the baton to successor of the Antifascist Committee of Soviet Youth. Nowadays, the National Youth Council of Russia continued working on this responsible mission laid by this organization. We appreciate the invaluable experience gained USSR CYO, use it in our daily activities, including communicating with foreign partners. On our initiative, the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students will be held in Russia in 2017 and it will be the third-generation Festival for our country. With it, we are looking forward to establish an international network of youth partner organizations like the one that USSR CYO created. Work on the festival takes place in close expert and friendly cooperation with the veterans of the youth movement. A low bow to you for all that you have done and continue to do for the country», — he said.
A solemn ceremony of handing of the symbolic key of the Preparatory Commission of the International World Festival of Youth and Students to the Russian youth of the XXI century was held in the evening.
All youth organizations of the country have united in USSR CYO for wider Soviet youth participation in the international life of the planet in 1956.
Committee of Youth Organizations of the USSR has done a great work on the development of international relations of the Soviet youth and the strengthening of public diplomacy, promotion of important international initiatives of our country during its existence. The Committee organized a global share of support and solidarity both with the progressive organizations abroad and with the whole country, helped young leaders of anti-imperialist movement in time of need. This activity was carried out in close cooperation with the World Federation of Democratic Youth and the International Union of Students.Talented young people came to work in USSR CYO, and, in front of them, the unprecedented career opportunities opened those days. The authority of the organization was very high not only in the Soviet Union, but also worldwide. Delegations of USSR CYO played in the parliaments of foreign countries, took their presidents and national leaders on every continent. For example, in the celebration of the transfer of the Panama Canal under Panamanian sovereignty of the United States delegation was headed by the vice-president of the country, and the Soviet Union delegation by an employee of USSR CYO — Anatoly Kanunnikov. National leader of Panama Omar Torrijos hosted the members of the Soviet delegation at his residence and they had a long friendly chat.
During its existence, the Committee has done a great work on the development of international relations of the Soviet youth and the strengthening of public diplomacy, promotion of important international initiatives of our country. «Peace», «Friendship», «Solidarity» — has always been the main slogans of USSR CYO. Examples of successful youth work of the Committee on the rules of the organization is considered to be the preparation and holding in 1957 and 1985 VI and XII World Festivals of Youth and Students in Moscow.
