High-level Forum on the Culture of Peace took place in New York

On September 7, the High-level Forum on the Culture of Peace started its work at the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York.  The President of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson convened the meeting.

Russia was represented at the Forum by the Chairperson of the National Youth Council of Russia and the Chairperson of the National Preparatory Committee of the 19th WFYS Grigory Petushkov.

«Russia as a multiсultural and multiconfessional country cares of considerable importance of the dialogue and cooperation between different cultures, religions and civilizations. This conception is successively provided by the cooperation with the United Nations, the OSCE, the Council of Europe and with other international and regional organizations! », — he stressed.

Petushkov also underlined the development of effective cooperation with UNESKO as one of important priorities of the Russian policy in the area of international cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Realization of this aim provides the opportunity to resolve global problems in the field of culture, science and education in the peaceful and non-political way.

The Russian representative also draw special attention to the fact that bringing up young generation, development and cultivation of cooperation among young people all over the world is the first key to achieve the goals of the Declaration. The expansion of youth exchanges and promotion active participation of Russian youth organizations in international, cultural and humanitarian cooperation are significant priorities for the Russian Federation.

Petushkov pointed out that this year Russia is hosting the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students – the relevant event in the field of international youth collaboration will take place in Sochi, October 14-22.

«The key goal of the Festival is to consolidate young people all over the world over the ideas of peace and social justice, strengthen international partnership, international inter-cultural and interethnic cooperation. We are convinced that this significant occasion will infuse a new impact on the international youth area. Obviously, we are sparking the interest of further promoting the history, traditions and aims of the Festival in Sochi. We are impatiently waiting for young people from all over the world to visit Russia in October! », — he stressed.

At the end of his report, Petushkov marked the importance of the High-level Forum on the Culture of Peace for the future of our countries.
