XIX World Festival of Youth and Students in 2017


The main event for youth and students around the world!

Russia will be the host country for the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students in 2017.

The World Federation of Democratic Youth and international student organizations made the decision at the international consultative meeting on February 7, 2016, on the issue of the XIX Festival. The bid of youth organizations to host the Festival was represented by Rosmolodezh on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin in November 2015.

Russia was the host country of the festival twice in the Soviet years — in 1957 (VI Festival) and in 1985 (XII festival). VI World Festival, which was held in Moscow in 1957, was the largest one in the history of the festival movement.

Objective: to consolidate the youth of the world community around the idea of justice, strengthening of international relations and development of inter-ethnic and intercultural cooperation


  1. Creation of the network of friendly foreign youth organizations around the world
  2. Formation of the community of Russian values guides and interests abroad
  3. Reconstruction of the International Union of Students
  4. Adoption of the call to the global community of youth

The festival will pass in Sochi from 14 to 22 of October. Key events will be held in the Olympic Park, in addition, the cultural and entertainment program of the event will take place at dozens of sites in different parts of the city. Moreover, the first day of the Festival traditionally begins with the youth and students parade in Moscow.

Discussion program includes a variety of platforms for dialogue, including panel discussions, public lectures and scientific conferences. Key topics will include «Culture and Globalization», «Global Economy», «Knowledge Economy», «Development of public institutions», «Politics and International Security»

More than 20 000 young people from 150 countries will be participants of the festival. One site will bring together young leaders from different fields including representatives of youth NGOs, young journalists, creative and athletic youth, young design engineers, leaders of youth organizations of political parties, young university professors, leaders of student government, young scientists, as well as nationals and foreigners, studying the Russian language and interested in Russian culture.

Year-round international youth media center of the Festival, which will include young journalists / bloggers from around the world, will begin its work on November 1, 2016. Media Center team will coverage the main events of preparation and holding of the Festival.

A large-scale Volunteer corps, which will include 7,000 volunteers, including foreigners will assist in the organization of the festival. Serious training of the volunteers will conduct 20 volunteer centers across Russia. Volunteer recruitment campaign will launch on October 25, 2016, in the framework of the All-Russia forum of volunteers.

200 community ambassadors, among which the best representatives of culture and sports, outstanding academics, politicians, public figures, journalists and many others will broadcast key ideas of the Festival.
