The Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace and the International Decade of a Culture of Peace and International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence in the interests of the Planet became ideological basics of this date. The UN invited state structures, as well as international and regional organizations, to celebrate the Friendship Day in accordance with the cultural traditions of a country and to organize events and initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue among civilizations, strengthening solidarity and mutual understanding among peoples. «Friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and provide an opportunity to build bridges between societies that honor cultural diversity,» as states the UN Resolution 65/275 of May 3, 2011.
