Reduce inequality within and among countries
Maria is a law student at the National Research Novosibirsk State University (NSU). Since 2014 she has been involved in the development of volunteerism and organization of socially oriented initiatives.
Maria is a winner of the Presidential award for the support of talented young people and a winner of the All-Russian contest «Volunteer of Russia» in the nomination «Urban Volunteerism».
Currently Maria is the Deputy Chair of the Youth Parliament of the Novosibirsk region; Head of the charity program «Targeted assistance to the veterans and disabled veterans of the Great Patriotic War» in the Novosibirsk region; social volunteerism coordinator in the «NSU Volunteers» movement. She also conducts trainings and workshops for volunteers and supervises a number of social projects and activities.
During the coronavirus pandemic Maria has been helping the Great Patriotic War veterans and elderly citizens, and organizing hot meals for hospital doctors.
– Has the COVID-19 pandemic influenced your views on cooperation between countries?
– The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the increasing inequality that the world community is struggling with. Today it is vital for the countries to come together to achieve their goals. At the domestic level, it is necessary to implement a set of measures that would support all those affected by COVID-19.
– What would you advise the UN Secretary-General to do to address the global challenges?
– Special attention should be paid to socially vulnerable groups: people with disabilities, people with many children, the elderly, people with low income. They are at risk and require the support of the governments. The package of measures should not only provide financial assistance, but also create conditions for decent work, quality medical care and education.
